Hi, I'm relocating to London along with my wife taking an intra-company transfer from India. I have few questions which I thought I will bring up in this forum to get answers. 1. My office is going to be in Central London and I would like to find a 2 bed room house within 30 minutes distance by train. Can you suggest some residential neighbourhoods for me to explore? My criteria's are the locality should be safe, should have good train connectivity, access to park, few clubs, market and grocery stores. 2. How much do you think will a 2 bedroom house meeting all my above requirements will cost for rental? 3. Do you think apart from rent, we can cover all the other expenses like council tax, electricity, gas, water, mobile, transport, internet Wi-Fi, food, entertainment for 2 people within 1000 GBPs? Lifestyle : Mostly we will be cooking food at home, 1-2 meals/week in a mid-range restaurant and 1 movie/month. Thanks.

Hi London Dreams,

It's been quite a while since I lived in London but hopefully I can offer some insight.

As for areas to live in thankully the tube network makes it is easy to commute and gives you a fair amount of choice. I think Leyton, Stratford and Hackney could be good options but obviously housing depends on your budget mostly. A two-bedroom apartment will cost on average GBP 2,000 per month but then there are also other factors that come into play.

I suggest taking a look at the cost of living in London page for a full breakdown of prices.

Good luck

Thanks Shantalie. My budget for 2bhk on rent is 1500 GBP / month. Can you please suggest any residential localities in London that is within 45 mins travel by train from Central London? And with regards to other living expenses will 1000 GBP be enough for a couple? Thanks

Hi London Dreams,

When you say other expenses? What exactly do you mean? Check out the cost of living in London page for a full breakdown of living expenses.

You can opt to live in suburbs such as Leyton in East London or Ealing perhaps. I'd suggest taking a look at the tube map for some ideas of commuting times. As long as the area is well equipped with transport links then I think you'll be OK.

Regards,

Shantalie
