Any suggestions for New Years Eve 2011
Hello. My husband and I along with 2 other friends are canadian expats living in China. We will be coming to KL for new year's eve this year and are looking for some recommendations for a good location to check out for the night.
We are not looking for anything fancy....just a good lively pub with some good pub grub!
Any suggestions or tips would be great - thanks so much!

New Year's Eve celebrations in KL are generally safe. Crowds tend to be large but well-mannered, but please do be aware of pickpockets.
Thanks a lot Randee! We are from China, which is the land of fireworks so that's not really a huge priority unless we happen to be out in the street at the time
Any tips on a good pub?
Hi again, Sharla. Please let me know what part of the city you'll be staying in and perhaps I can offer some more specific suggestions. Being New Year's Eve, there will be places to go out and celebrate at but because this is a Muslim country there are limitations.
I'm just following up to ensure that you have the information you were looking for to help have a fun time in Kuala Lumpur over the New Year. Because this is a Muslim country, bars and pubs aren't as commonplace as in China but there are establishments that will be serving up fun, food and booze. A site which may give you information specific to the area where you will be staying is TimeOutKL. If you are planning to be in the Golden Triangle area, most of the parties will be at the hotels. There is a club called Zouk on Jalan Ampang that will have entertainment. A club opened last Friday beside the Sheraton Hotel. There is a very popular restaurant/bar located on Jalan Ampang called 'The Library'. It is right across the street from the Twin Towers. Because of its location, you'll need to get there early if you want to get a place to sit. Usually, they close off a major roadway named Jalan Bukit Bintang for the evening with live entertainment. Other happening areas will be in the Bangsar area of Kuala Lumpur. The Curve shopping mall complex (near to IKEA) usually has a 'street party'. It's not quite the same as in western countries, particularly regarding the consumption of alcohol, but you should find the people are friendly.
