Opening a bank account in the Netherlands is a relatively straight-forward process...though, you'll first need to secure a bit of paperwork before you do so. For this reason, maintain an offshore account and bring a card with you (VISA or MASTERCARD) to withdraw money and make large purchases in the meantime. Be sure to notify your bank that you're moving abroad so they lift the security ban.

Bring the following documents to the bank to open an account:

  • a valid passport
  • a proof of address, such as a lease or utility bill
  • some banks may also request proof of work, such as a contract
  • a BSN or tax number
  • a residence permit
