Cost of living in Spain

Hi - we are planning a move to Spain (Mallorca) and would be interested to know the cost of living compared to London. I imagine it is much cheaper, particulalry now, but I am sure there are some items that cost more. How do you reckon living costs compare to London - which items are cheaper and which cost more. Many thanks.

The cost of living in Mallorca is cheaper than London; especially when it comes to day to day expenses. Expenditures like transport, clothing, food and entertainment are much more affordable - especially beer, wine and spirits. The increasing power of the Euro, and the decreasing power of the Pound has lessened the differential; but those moving from London can still look forward to a lower cost of living in Mallorca.

That said, there's certainly an opportunity to live an extravagant lifestyle in Mallorca, so if eating at expensive restaurants and treating yourself to the more touristic pleasures available is how you'd like to spend your money, don't expect to save much.
