I am married with an American woman living and working in Oman and she has had residency there for two years. I am here in Morocco, and I am a Moroccan citizen. Can she sponsor me to go to Oman?

She told me that she only knows of Canadians with a tourist visa who come to visit their wives there, but that I will not be able to. So what is the solution, as I dont like to be apart from my wife?

Hi Hassan

The visa that allows the family of people working in Oman to stay with them is called the Family Joining and Family Residence Visa. According to official sources, this visa is granted to the wife and children of a foreign man working and living in Oman.

The law in Oman does not allow women from Oman to pass on their citizenship to a foreign spouse or their children. It is quite possible then, that a foreign woman will be unable to sponsor her husband's visa.

The best thing to do is to contact the Oman Embassy in Rabat. It is possible that it may be easier get a Relative/Friend Visit Visa, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

It will probably be better for you to visit on a tourist visa, or get an employment visa of your own. To find out more about this, have a look at our Visas for Oman page.

Best of luck
