Hi, anyone with any knowledge or experience of Kabwe in Zambia I would be most obliged to hear from you. I am considering a job in Kabwe for a small organisation for at least a two year contract. I would like to know more about accommodation, living costs, availability of ATMs, reliability of the postal service and of course any creature comforts that you know of or could recommend. Thanks so much in advance for your kind help. TR

Hi Tricia,

I hope this forum can soon put you in contact with expats living in Kabwe.

The cost of living in Zambia is generally more expensive than other places in Europe but if you are used to prices in Europe or North America, you'll certainly find things cheap. Also if you are being paid in a strong currency, you'll find that your salary goes a long way.

For a breakdown of everyday living costs in Zambia check out the Expat Arrivals page on the Cost of Living in Zambia.

When it comes to banking, ATMs can easily be found in Lusaka but in more rural areas you might struggle to find one that is working and stocked up with currency. Its best to plan ahead and make sure you always have cash on you. For more information read the Banking, Money and Taxes in Zambia page.

Hope this information in useful. Good luck in Zambia.

Hi Tricia, I have been living and working in Kabwe since 2012. It a nice small town with really pleasant people. One surprising thing is that for asmall town things are really expensive, but accommodation can be cheaper that Lusaka. ATMS are available here also. I even use my VISA cards to withdraw here in Kabwe. There isn't as much in terms of shopping services like there are in Lusaka. There is only Shoprite, no Spar or Pick&Pay or Game. There are also some other small scale shops. But Lusaka is an hour 45mins from Kabwe, in private car and its also easy to get to with reliable bus services. In terms of postal services, it is quite reliable in Zambia generally and Kabwe also has DHL, FEDEX. Hope this helps abit:)

Hi Tricia, I am born and bred in Kabwe but Live and work in Lusaka. Kabwe like any small town in the world is small and quiet. Postal service is reliable, I still receive mail from England. There are lots of bankig services and ATMs. You will find banks such as Barclays, Stanbic, Banc ABC, finance Bank etc. Lusaka is only an hour's drive so you are accessible to shopping malls. Rentals are very reasonable compared to Lusaka is like living in England. Cost of living is high but if you earn Foreign currency you probably be alright. Hope this helps
