Hi, I have been offered a job with a salary of AED20,000. I have 4 kids aged 16, 13, 9 & 6. I am not sure yet if this offer includes any education or housing allowances as things are in the early stages yet. If this is the basic salary I would be coming out with could we afford to live in Abu Dhabi? We do not need to live a lavish lifestyle, just a few home comforts and occasional treats for the kids.

Yes, that's a good salary for you to live in Abu Dhabi. You can have affordable life with your family with the salary. You should try to found out if accommodation and other things are included as to plan yourself well.

In all honesty if it does not include housing and education then it will be difficult. Housing is very expensive in Abu Dhabi and you have a large family. It is the same for schooling - prices vary but so does the quality and curriculi. You also need to think about medical insurance etc. If all these are included you will be okay but if not it will be hard.

Will be moving to Abudhabi and working in one of the the Rehab Centre in Khalifa A. I would love to get an apartment in Reem Island. Just want to check if it is a good idea ?

Thanks for the replies. Both myself and my teenage son have Type 1 diabetes. Will this be expensive to manage?

If you are getting housing and medical with your job you will be fine. If not I would seriously reconsider the offer.

If you have housing and education paid for outside of this you should be ok. If not I would seriously reconsider. To live on Reem, even in a three bed apartment, will take up to three quarters of this salary! Four bed apartments are hard to come by(and five beds non-existant) so you would be looking at a house - and again, you will be paying 75% of that in rent even for an an older one. Good luck.
