Though all citizens and expat residents of Norway are entitled to healthcare, it's not completely free - contrary to popular idea. Healthcare in Norway is greatly subsidized by the government, but it's still necessary to pay a small fixed fee (works kind of like a deductible) that changes annually. Once you pay this fee, then you get a "free card" called a frikort and you won't have to pay anymore for the entire year.

Hi!
I have two questions:
1. As a temporary resident (skilled worker) what can I expect in terms of health care? Should I keep my American health insurance? (I hope not!)
2. I have prescription medication that I need to take daily. How can I get this prescription in Norway?
Thanks very much!
