Hello everyone, I am in a bit of a fix. I was working at a hotel company in dubai during 2008-09. As i wasnt given the work that i was promised, and combined with insanely long hours without overtime pay, i refused to go to work. following that i was called to discuss the situation by the supervisor. during the discussion the supervisor told me that if i wouldnt had showed u that they would have declared me absconding even though i was just still living at the company provided accomodation. .however we agreed that my contract be terminated. They had offered to waive off the visa fees that the company had paid for me if i resigned instead of termination, but since i could not afford a flight ticket, i requested them to terminate me, because of which the company would have to pay for my flight ticket back home. I had spent just six months there. a company PRO took me to the airport and he got my visa cancelled (theres a cancelled stamp on the passport) and i came home. now after 6 years, i have been offered a new job in abu dhabi, however when the new company filed for my CID Clearance, it was rejected, and hence i lost a job. My question is that, is it possible that during my short tenure in dubai 6 years ago, that my previous company could have imposed a ban on me after i left which would result in CID being rejected? How do i find out about my ban status if there's one? And how do i get it removed?

Hi there

There is a possibility that the company reported you as having absconded. At the same time, this is far from a certainty- hence your fix.

From the bit of research I did, it seems unlikely that you will be able to check whether you are on an immigration blacklist yourself. One suggestion I came across would be to check with a travel agent that handles visa applications. If they can't do it themselves, they may be able to help.

Another option would be to go to your closest Dubai consulate or embassy in person, with your passport, and have it checked.

Have a look at our Work Permits for Dubai, and Visas for Dubai page for a refresher on how the system works, so that you can approach this in an informed manner.

Good luck,

Xavier

Thanks for the reply. If the company had reported me absconding, is there a way for me with which I can get it revoked. I have emailed my previous company to find out whether they had placed a ban on me or had reported me absconding, however I'm awaiting their reply.
