I am just beginning my research into a move to Ireland. The first question I have relates to my dog. She is three year old mutt. Will she be allowed in and if so how long will she be quarrentined? Nency. Can someone give me some tips on how to go about this?

Thank you for the information about dogs and cats. However, I have a budgie and I'm coming from California. Am I allowed to bring my parakeet? Thank you :)

We are also wanting to bring our little dog to Ireland and have found this info on the following site. http://www.agriculture.gov.ie/pets/ We are still concerned about the possibility of quarantine as it seems even if we do all the necessary innoculations etc she may still be deemed not to qualify and be either placed in quarantine for a length period or sent home. She is already 11 years old and would probably not survive quarantine. Any ideas??

Quarantine is no longer necessary if your dog has all the required paperwork from your vet recording its shots, microchipping, and deworming. Also, dogs and cats must be flown as cargo and cannot be carried on or flown in the hold on flights into Ireland. As far as I can tell, this can get a bit pricey depending on the size and weight of your dog. Most airlines also have breed restrictions on dogs they deem dangerous/"fighting" breeds, as well as "snub-nosed" dogs like Boxers who can't easily regulate their body temperature. I have not personally flown my dog to Ireland but am actively looking into the process for next year. Here are some helpful sites I've found regarding the needed steps. http://irelandmoveclub.com/moving-to-ireland-with-your-dog/ http://www.movetoireland.com/movepag/petover.htm Good luck on your move!
