Moving to Thailand from Australia - advice?

Hi all, I'm moving to Thailand - Bangkok to be exact - from Australia later in the year to be an ESL teacher and just wanted to check on a couple of things. First off, is it easy to get by with just speaking English? Secondly, what are of the city is good to live in as a young, social, single person?
