Hello. I am planning on relocating to Dubai. I am would really appreciate some advice on what to expect - in particular what is the lifestyle like, is Dubai unbearibly hot? Is there much to do at weekends, do expats leave the city? Is there a good expat scene, what are most expats like! I am quite excited about the idea of relocating to Dubai and would love to hear some first-hand advice. Where do most expats live in Dubai? Do people live in apartments or in houses. Look forward to hopefully hearing from someone. Tom

Hi Tom-

First off, you should expect you'll be one of MANY expats relocating to Dubai. You'll likely be able to find people from your same country who share your same values, background and in many cases, experiences.

The weather certainly demands some adjustment, especially during this time of year - in fact, most expats vacate the city during June/July/August and go home to visit with family and escape the heat. That said, your home, the malls and nearly every indoor venue in Dubai is air-conditioned, so you won't have to worry too much about suffering.

There's plenty to do entertainment wise in Dubai, though most of it revolves around shopping and socialising in indoor venues.

For advice regading accommodation in Dubai I recommend you have a look at the Expat Arrivals Dubai guide; there's now even an option to print out a PDF that can answer many of the questions you've noted in your post.

Good Luck!

Im an expat and i love being here in Dubai and dont regret a second of it.
Even though its hot its not that bad right now as it has cooled down considerably.
There are many places we go and relax in even keep up with the football =) lol but all in all its a great experience and would'nt change my circumstances, for now anyway...If you would like to know more from a fellow expat feel free to email me on sabrina.dhir@worldwide-offshore.com
