Relocating from South Africa to Qatar, and like all good people down on the tip of the "dark" continent - concerned with safety. Do I need to be worries about crime in Qatar? What measures should be taken with home security, driving safety, etc...

You won't have to worry about your safety in Qatar in the same way that you have to worry about safety in South Africa. Crime rates are low here, and serious, violent crime in particular is a rarity. Aside from locking your doors and putting your valuables out of sight in a safe place, you also won't need to add any additional security measures to your home. It's perfectly safe to walk alone as a woman at night, though, the normal precautions should be heeded - stay away from poorly-lit areas and be mindful of your belongings.

The extreme heat and the incredibly poor driving will actually be your largest safety concerns in Qatar. Locals drive like demons, and it can take some getting used too.
