Morning, Can any one guide me about the visa processing in Qatar. I've worked in Oman from 2008 - 2010 but I resigned my job when I came for vacation and never go back. My visa already expired on feb 2012. But in passport the Oman visa is not cancelled but expired. Is there any problem when I apply for work resident visa. Pl advise me. Thanks in advance

You can enter in Qatar. Only thing is your employer has to pay an amount of 1500 Qatari riyals, because you have not cancelled your Oman visa.

Thanks Mr. Xavier for your prompt reply but the issue is I heard once we leave from gulf countries the visa should be in proper either cancel or expire. If not we cannot enter other gulf countries. That's what my concern and looking for that answer.

Hi Anand

Your concern is valid, but unfortunately one that would have to be answered by an immigration consultant or even a lawyer.

I would suggest this especially since there is talk of the gulf states establishing an integrated tourist visa program. This doesn't say whether or not this is the case with work permits, but it does imply that the states are willing to work together when it comes to visas.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Best of luck,

Xavier

Hi Anand

Given that Oman and Qatar are separate countries, you should not have a problem getting into Qatar solely on the basis of an expired visa from another country, regardless of whether or not they operate a kafala system.

That said, this would ultimately be up to the discretion of Qatari authorities. In other words, the best you can do is apply and hope for the best. Unfortunately custom regulations aren't always uniformly applied.

Have a look at our Visas for Qatar and Work Permits for Qatar pages to get a better idea of the entry requirements for Qatar.

I hope this works out for you.

All the best,

Xavier
