Hi there

I'm moving to Cape Town with my family and I'm a bit concerned as my son has some chronic health problems. Has anyone had experience with the hospitals there?

Thanks so much,

BH

Hi Belinda
The hospitals and medical care in Cape Town is world class. Most expats go to the private hospitals, and you should be able to find more detail in the healthcare section of the cape town guide on expatarrivals.com. Mediclinic and Netcare are the two big private hospital companies. The public hospitals are best avoiced if you can afford to.
Hope that helps.

Hi Belinda

As Tom mentioned, have a look at Healthcare in Cape Town. The private hospitals are great and the Groote Schuur public hospital is one of the best in the country, but it doesn't come near the private sector.

Good luck

Hi, I am travelling to Cape Town and be there for 4 months, the travel insurance from uk is very expensive especially as it's longer than the usual 90 days! I am happy to go to my sisters GP, should I need it however if for some reason I was involved in a car accident would the hospitals be sufficient as far as the care goes? What about cleanliness? Thank you

Hi there

Have a look at our Healthcare in South Africa page for detailed information on this. Generally you will want to avoid public hospitals but private hospitals usually have high standards of care and are almost alwyas exceptionally hygienic. Private GPs are also normally good.

Hope this helps.

Best  of luck,

Xavier
