Hi Johan

You'll first need to find a job in Zambia before you can get a work permit. You can find more info on the Department of Immigration's website here: http://www.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm/

You'll need to provide a criminal clearance (which can take months to get in SA - I'm currently waiting for one myself and it takes AGES!), your work contract, as well as certified copies of any relevant qualifications, etc.

If you're even thinking about working in Zambia, go to your nearest police station right now with your South African ID book and R59 to apply for your police clearance. It's by the far the one thing that takes the longest to attain and it's valid for 6 months once you get it, so you may as well. Once you apply, you're reponsible for sending the application form to the Police Clearance Office in Pretoria - best to send it overnight post, and include a self addressed, stamped, registered envelope with it. Even if you do all that it still takes at least 6 weeks.

Don't forget to have a read through the Expat Arrivals Guide to Zambia if you're considering the move.
