Sick and tired of all the pessimism in the UK - not to mention the grim, grey days; Amsterdam seems like a damn good place to be, but just worried about cost of living. I'm an online writer and I'll continue making pounds - but not a lot. What's the cost of living in the Netherlands compared to the UK?

You'll be glad to find that in terms of rent, the cost of living in the Netherlands is much more affordable. My husband and I also came from the UK and we found that we were able to afford a property that was both bigger and better than the shoebox we were pigeonholed into in London. You do have to be careful that the landlord doesn't try to charge you more here than they would a local. When we were looking we felt like that was the case.
