My husband and I are moving with our little girl (age 8) to Amsterdam this September. My husband's employer has offered to fly us over so we can acquaint ourselves with the city and start to look for housing. Can anyone indicate which neighborhoods of Amsterdam are the best for families looking for a easy-going lifestyle outside the helter-skelter of the city? Green space is a big plus, as is pedestrian-friendly streets and public space.

Hi-

I'm moving with husband to Kuala Lumpur in the upcoming months and I've just found out I'm pregnant :) Just wondering if there's any fellow expat women who have given birth in Malaysia and who can direct me to a good hospital, a good OBGYN, and strong support networks. Thanks!

Hi-

I've been offered a job in Kuala Lumpur and I'm wondering what I need to negotiate in my work contract. I plan on bringing my wife and five-year-old son with. I assume my employer will handle the work permit documentation and shoulder any costs that come with, but what about, accommodation, schooling, healthcare, etc...

Just wondering about the standard of safety in Kuala Lumpur. I'm coming from Johannesburg, South Africa so I can't imagine I'd need to prepare for a higher level of crime than what I'm exposed to at the moment, but still, an indication of what precautions I should take would be much appreciated!

Hi- I'm thinking of moving to Christchurch, New Zealand with my husband, he's been offered an engineering position as a consequence of the earthquake. In the same vein, I've been trying to find information about living and working in Christchurch, but everything seems to be written before the natural disaster. Can anyone give me an idea of how the city's changed since and what to expect NOW?

What's housing in New Zealand like?

Hi- I'm moving to New Zealand to finish my master's degree - I'll be moving to Dunedin and was wondering if anyone could give any tips about searching for and securing housing. I've passed that "party 'til you die" stage of life, so no real interest in staying in digs with a posse of frat boys or sorority sisters.

Hi-

I moved to Lagos, Nigeria about six weeks ago and other than watching paint dry there seems to be little to do. I don't have any kids and I don't drink, so please, no recommendations for mum-n-tot pottery days or binge drinking activities. Desperate for some advice, is there anything to do in Lagos as an expat???

419 Nigerian Scam?

I recently received a job offer to be the Retail Manager of a compay called Legatrix in Nigeria. I didn't apply for any jobs with the company and I'm not sure how they got my email. Currently I manage a Gap Store in Garden City, New Jersey. As much as I'd like to see the world, I'm not sure if Nigeria is the best place for me or if this offer is legitimate. I've never heard of Legatrix, but I assume they're some sort of sporting good store - leggins have really taken off over the last few years.

How do I get a work permit for Kyrgyzstan?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to do some ESL teaching in Kyrgyzstan.  I've finally learned how to spell it, and am now looking for some information about work permits...

Can anyone let me know how these are done?  Do I apply beforehand, or sort it out when I arrive? Also, are there some nationalities who are maybe exempt from needing one?

Any help will be appreciated.
