Obtaining a Driving License as an Expat in Abu Dhabi

As an expat with a residence permit living in Abu Dhabi with a foreign driving license it’s exceptionally easy to obtain the local equivalent. Just follow these easy steps:

1.  Go to the nearest Traffic and Licensing Department

2.  Take an eye sight examination

3.  Submit the following documents:  

•         Passport (original and copy)
•         Recent photo (3 x copies)
•         Foreign license (original and copy – must not be expired)
•         Legal translation of the license
•         Letter from sponsor or employer issued in Abu dhabi
•         Letter declaring blood type

4.  Pay the designated fee (AED 200)
