The Happiest Countries on Earth

The World’s Happiest Countries

Before moving abroad it’s a good idea to ask the locals how they find life in their own country. That’s exactly what the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) did, using data from a 140-nation Gallup poll.

The report looks at life-satisfaction by finding out how many positive and negative experiences people have over the course of a typical day. In total at least 1000 people were interviewed in each of the 140 countries surveyed.

The top 10 is dominated by northern European countries – Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands occupy the top three places.

Three factors appear to be key determining a country’s happiness index: economic health and GDP; work-life balance; and low unemployment rates.
