What the school says

"Nexus International School (Singapore) is an international school with children from more than 55 different nationalities, catering to ages 3 to 18. At Nexus, every child is taught based on their personal motivations, understanding and talents. We empower children to learn by encouraging them to be independent and teaching them to be critical thinkers. Outcomes in our core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science measure well above the international average and our ongoing assessments allow us to track every child’s performance. Our child-centred philosophy is echoed by every teacher, in every class and in every extra-curricular activity.

"With our guiding philosophy at school – The Nexus Way, we adopt the key elements of Mindsets, Relationships, Inclusion and Innovation. It is what makes Nexus unique as our Nexus Way is embedded in everything we do and say – from our approach towards teamwork, collaboration, risk taking and passion, given how international our Nexus community is."

Curriculum

Nexus offers the International Baccalaureate Curricula (Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme* and Diploma Programme). The school has introduced the Middle Years Programme (MYP) as of the 2021/2022 academic year. The MYP integrates global concepts into the school’s existing Secondary curriculum, enhancing it to be more extensive and balanced. The programme also promotes skills such as problem-solving, evaluation and analysis, providing a solid foundation for future-ready learners.

From Year 7 onwards, learners are exposed to the rigorous yet highly flexible framework of the IB, making the adjustment a lot easier as they progress through their educational journey. Year 10 and 11 learners follow the Cambridge IGCSE. At Nexus, the IB is embedded in all that the school does and learners have many opportunities to work with peers in their academic pursuits, as well as sports, arts, music and service to support learners to be successful and graduate to their university of choice. More than 30 percent of graduates have studied in leading Russell Group Universities in the UK and around 36 percent of graduates have studied within top QS Ranked Universities across Asia & Australasia.

More than half of Nexus learners speak two languages or more. The school has previously offered mother-tongue language classes in Japanese, Dutch, French, Russian and Polish. If there is a demand, Nexus opens up a mother-tongue programme as a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA).

For learners who may need some extra help with their language development, Nexus has bilingual and multilingual language specialists who will work with each child, helping them to confidently and accurately communicate in English, both socially and academically.

In 2021, the school's average IB grade was 37 points, up from 34 in 2020 and 32 in 2019. 44 percent of IB diplomas awarded were bilingual. For the IGCSE in 2021, 38 percent of all entries were A/A* grade and there was a 93 percent pass rate for A* to C. This is an increase from 33 percent and 85 percent respectively in 2020.

*Nexus International School (Singapore) is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). This programme will continue for each subsequent academic year, MYP Year 8 in 2022/23 and MYP Year 9 in 2023/2024. Until then, learners will continue the English National Curriculum.

Fees

Fees for the 2023/2024 academic year range from SGD 23,200 for the half-day Nursery programme up to SGD 44,700 for Years 12 and 13. The fees are payable before the start of each of the two school semesters in equal instalments. There is also an application fee of SGD 972 and an enrolment fee of SGD 3,456.

From the deputy head teacher

"This is my third year at Nexus and I’m currently the Deputy Head of Primary School and Primary Years Programme (PYP) coordinator. I’m originally from the United Kingdom, but have lived abroad now for the past 21 years – 12 years in Qatar and now in my 10th year in Singapore. The role I have is exciting and challenging, with each day being very different and allowing me to work closely with both the learners and teachers. My favourite part of the week is when I get to teach Health & Physical Education in my Year 6 classes as it supports me remaining strongly connected to the children.

"I also enjoy planning discussions with the different year group teams and what each of the units might look like for our learners. I have had the opportunity to start up rugby again at the school, with us now running several different year groups. With rugby, I get to work alongside the older children at the school as well. The most exciting time for me is when learners are empowered to make choices and decisions about their own learning. This allows the learners to create greater connections between school and the real world and deepen understanding."

– Mr Paul Rimmer, Deputy Head of School (Primary), PYP Coordinator

From the parents

"It is our eighth year at Nexus, and I never regretted our choice. From primary years to the final IB years, the staff has been amazing, always supportive. Every teacher is attentive to the needs of each learner, whether they need support or to be challenged to achieve more, academically or in sports. I appreciate that they are always available if we have concerns.

"The IB coordinator and the University Guidance Counsellor also do a great job helping the learners to choose the best options and join the university of their choice.
I believe that the Nexus way of learning, through inquiry, creativity and empathy, is giving all the tools to my boys to continue their education at university and in life."

– Mrs Stephanie Khaou, parent of Robin (19), Hugo (17) and Elliott (14).
