Accommodation in Brussels

Brussels is a large city with plenty of leafy residential suburbs and neighbourhoods to live in. Depending on where you work you may choose to live either in the city or on the outskirts in the more leafy suburban areas. Most rental properties in Brussels are let unfurnished, which means tenants must provide their own furniture including appliances, kitchen cupboards and even ceiling lamps. It’s rare to find a furnished property unless you’re looking for a short-term stay of less than a year.

Flat or apartment rentals are usually between €1,000 and €2,000, depending on the location and neighbourhood. Houses are more expensive to rent than apartments but by searching on bulletin boards and websites, it’ s fairly easy to find a place with shorter leases than the standard three to nine years. A standard 2-bedroom flat fully furnished can cost approximately €1,500 per month to rent, while to buy a property like this would cost you roughly €200,000.

The best neighbourhoods to live in are considered to be Uccle and Woluwe-Saint- Pierre although you’re likely to pay much more in these cosmopolitan areas. They are great for raising families, as there is a well-developed network of childcare centres and plenty of green parks and playgrounds. It is a very pleasant place to live. Auderghem is considered to be one of the nicest neighbourhoods in Brussels.
