Accommodation in Brussels
Brussels is a large city with plenty of leafy residential suburbs and neighbourhoods available for expats searching for accommodation.Depending on where you work you may choose to live either in the city or on the outskirts of town. Most rental properties in Brussels are let unfurnished, which means tenants must provide their own furniture including appliances, kitchen cupboards and even ceiling lamps. It’s rare to find a furnished accommodation in Brussels unless you’re looking for a short-term stay of less than a year.
Flat or apartment rentals are usually between €1000 and €2000, price being largely dependent on the location and the neighbourhood. Generally speaking, houses are more expensive to rent than apartments.
By searching on bulletin boards and web sites, it’s fairly easy to find a place with shorter leases than the standard three to nine years. A standard 2-bedroom flat fully furnished can cost approximately €1500 per month to rent, while to buy a property like this would cost you roughly €200,000.
The best neighbourhoods to live in are considered to be Uccle and Woluwe-Saint- Pierre; although, you’re likely to pay much more in these cosmopolitan areas. They are great for raising families, as they host a well-developed network of childcare centres and plenty of green parks and playgrounds.
Auderghem is also considered to be one of the nicest neighbourhoods in Brussels to have accommodation.
