Kids in Vancouver
Vancouver is a great city for families with kids. The city has a host of indoor and outdoor parks and recreational areas. During winter parents will be able to take their kids to some of the city's great museums and interactive educational exhibitions. There are also many other seasonal activities such as skating, ice hockey, sledding and skiing.
A popular option is to spend the day at Stanley Park, where the Spray Park and the Children's Farm petting zoo are great fun, as are horse-drawn carriage rides. The Vancouver Aquarium and the Greater Vancouver Zoo are good places to see some exotic and unusual animals, while everything ‘outer-space’ can be experienced at the Space Centre or the Telus World of Science.
There’s also great fun to be had at Granville Island's Water Park and Adventure Playground, and at the Richmond go-cart track. In the dreaded cold of winter, there are a few indoor playgrounds to visit including the Kerrisdale Play Palace, in the Kerrisdale Cyclone Taylor Arena, and the Kid Zone at Park Royal Mall South Shopping Center. There are many preschool and daycare options around the city as well as lots of schools and universities. Most schools offer after school activities as well as vacation camps.
Most experienced expats will agree that when moving abroad the adjustment for their kids is a big concern. Vancouver is a great place for expat families with kids because it is one of Canada’s most diverse cities. Kids will easily embrace their new home and parents will find that the city is very family-friendly, as is the Canadian environment in general.
