Accommodation in Frankfurt

Sachsenhausen is an affordable and lovely area to live in outside the city, with a view of the river Main, while Bornheim is also reasonable and popular with young professionals. Both areas are great for expats starting out as there are plenty of interesting nooks and crannies, cafés and shops to meet people in and they are just a short hop across the river into the city.

Parts of Niederrad are affordable, while the Westend is quite upmarket and renting or buying here can be very expensive. These areas are also stylish and architecturally beautiful with wonderful old historic buildings lining the streets. Kronberg is a great place to live for families, but can be quite pricey.

Most people choose to rent apartments or houses fully furnished. The rule of thumb for what monthly rent should be is usually €10 per square metre. Most landlords require a deposit the maximum amount being three-month’s deposit payable in instalments.

The average rent for a modern, fully furnished 2-bedroom apartment in Nordend is roughly €1,200 per month. To buy such an apartment would cost around €150,000 - €200,000, depending on the neighbourhood.
