Munich truly is a magnificent place to be. With its state of the art technology, first-class infrastructure, captivating architecture and historical allure, it's difficult to find any fault with this magical city. However, as with all expat destinations, there are a few
pros and cons worth mentioning (but not nearly enough to give one reason to leave!)
Pros
- High standard of living and superb quality of life
- Excellent punctual public transport services
- The city is “bicycle friendly,” has a network of dedicated cycling lanes, and is relatively flat which makes using a bicycle for transport a very popular choice
- Very safe/low crime rate
- Great healthcare services
- Good geographical location for touring the rest of Europe
- Great outdoor activities - lots of parks and fields for walking, running and cycling, lakes for swimming during summer/ice skating during winter
- Wide variety of shops, restaurants, and markets
- Home to the original beer gardens, where one can sip on some of Bavaria's finest brews and feast on a few of its traditional foods
- Rich in history, culture and the arts
- Excellent communications infrastructure – local land-line calls are free, Internet affordable and efficient
Cons
- High living costs/one of the most expensive cities in Germany
- Often difficult to find an apartment
- Snobby and conservative
- Snow in winter can turn a simple task - like going to a corner café - into an arduous and uncomfortable experience
- Language is difficult to learn – youth speak more English than older generations
- Traffic jams are a common occurrence, often due to constant road maintenance
