Though Bangalore is often credited as being the best Indian city to live in for expats, those used to sound infrastructure and reliable government service may find themselves in the midst of contradiction – or rather, large potholes and the odd electricity shortage.

Still, once expats can accept that the capitol of Karnataka is still a developing city – but a good one at that, life can be lived very comfortably even when compared with western standards.

Known as the Garden City due to its leafy avenues and quiet suburbs, Bangalore was the first electrified Indian cosmopolitan and has since spearheaded technological innovation and modernisation in the nation.

As a result, an influx of westerners and the ensuing rise in wealth have created an open-minded and peaceful city culture that expats tend to enjoy. Additionally, the spread out sprawling nature of the metropolis makes for a less frenetic atmosphere and a calmer overall environment.

Though Bangalore is not a tourist hotspot, there are nonetheless plenty of shopping malls, well-stocked supermarkets, and excellent restaurants to satisfy the wants and needs of permanent residents.

In fact, so active is the bar scene, that Bangalore has been affectionately nicknamed the 'Pub Capital of India'. As an added bonus, the city’s standard of safety makes it perfectly acceptable walk between venues late at night.
