Shipping and Removals to Italy

To streamline the process of moving, you need to have a detailed inventory of your household items so that a reputable company can provide a comprehensive quote based on your load size and the distance travelled (from your country of origin to your Italian destination).

It is advisable to get different quotes from companies that are accredited by the removal industry. There are companies that offer a “groupage service” where your possessions are allocated space in other containers. This is a cheaper option but it does mean you have to wait longer for your goods to arrive. It is important to insure your items, which is around 1 to 2 percent of the total value of your goods.

It is important to do your homework on the customs regulations pertaining to Italy before you ship your goods to avoid any problems. The documentation you will need is a passport copy, residence visa, work permit, an inventory in Italian, a Fiscal Number, Consular Declaration, Residency Certificate and Permit to stay issued by the Police Office Foreign Department.

Restricted items include all consumable goods (e.g. alcohol). New furniture and household items will be subject to duty and the import of all electronic equipment will be subject to an Import Permit from the Italian Ministry of Posts and Communications.
