Weather in Japan

Despite its small size, Japan has a variable climate depending on where on the island one is based. Tokyo has a climate similar to New York. Summers (June, July and August) are hot and humid, while winters are freezing and snowy. Tokyo is at its best in spring or autumn. Kyoto is very hot in summer, and winter temperatures often drop below freezing. Kyoto summers are also humid and virtually windless, with temperatures reaching 104°F (40°C). Sapporo has a humid continental climate - hot and wet summers (June to September) and chilly, snowy winters (December to March). Sapporo – a former Winter Olympic Games city – can get up to 72 inches of snow (1828mm) in January alone. And yes, the skiing is sensational!
