Culture Shock in Kenya

There are many different cultures in Kenya as the country is an amalgamation of different ethnicities.

Some find these different cultures in Kenya difficult to adjust to and tend to live an expat life in Kenya, sometimes contentedly so, in an exclusively expat circle. Homes in expat compounds can add to the feeling of segregation. Others find the friendly cultures of Kenya different but welcoming.

With no shortage of smiles and curiosity, locals are often eager to help or befriend foreigners.

Helping ease the transition for English speakers is the lack of language barrier. Many Kenyans speak English, which is one of the official languages. There are also many expat groups in the large cities that organise for everything from lunch dates to sporting events. The embassies and consulates keep track of expat clubs.
