Accommodation in New Zealand

Many expats in New Zealand choose to rent accommodation at first. However, the majority of expats who move to New Zealand with the intention of staying longer than just temporarily tend to buy property after a year or two in the country.

Expats moving from the northern hemisphere should keep in mind that north-facing properties are warmer than south-facing ones. Furnished accommodation is hard to come by, but not impossible. It is best to find a rental property with some form of heating for the winter; however, sometimes this is difficult. Finding accommodation shouldn’t be a problem for expats moving to New Zealand, but rental charges in cities, and Auckland in particular, are a lot more expensive than those of outlying areas. Expats can rent property before arriving in New Zealand, but this is not advisable, as it is often more expensive and occasionally the property is not up to the standards you would expect based on the description given.
