Safety and security in Oslo

One definite positive aspect of living in Oslo is the low crime rate. There is of course theft and you should be careful with your belongings, but you can assume that you will not be the victim of a violent crime.

Having a security system at home is not common and usually not necessary. However, it also depends a lot upon the area in which you live and what possessions you have. The wealthier areas may have security systems or high gates with deterrents.
