University in Oslo

Videregående graduates can apply to go to university. There is no tuition fee at Norwegian state run universities. Students usually apply for a student loan to cover room and board and other living expenses, which doesn’t have to be paid back until you have a salaried job.

However, the rules are different for applicants from outside EU/EEA/EFTA-countries. According to regulations from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), these foreign students have to apply for a student residence permit in Norway before entering the country. In order to receive the residence permit, applicants must document that they have their own source of financing during their stay in Norway. The minimum amount of money required is currently 85,000 NOK per academic year.

Norway has several good universities, and the best in Oslo are:

Biotechnology, Dentistry, Development and the Environment, and Women’s Studies and Gender are some of the research areas that various faculties focus on.
  •

  • Handelshøyskolen BI (BI Norwegian School of Management) provides bachelor and master degree courses as well as an MBA program. The institute also has a doctoral course as well as a number of executive business courses. BI is a private university and thus requires tuition fees.
