Domestic Help in Moscow

Many expats living in Moscow find that one of the few luxuries that is affordable in the city, is domestic help.

There are lots of Filipino women living in Moscow who have immigrated with the sole purpose of making money and sending it domestic help in Moscowback home to their families. They live together, sometimes ten people to a flat in the outskirts of Moscow, and work as cleaners and nannies. Many are not 'proper nannies' (possessing qualifications), but most speak English, and expats report that they are hard workers and generally reliable.

Alternatively, there is also a healthy assortment of Russian nannies, maids and housekeepers available. Their grasp of English may be even less proficient than the Filipinos’, and they tend to charge higher prices as well.

The hourly rate for domestic help in Moscow is between 200 and 300 rubles, but ask other expats the hourly rate before you agree to a price.

Furthermore, though it’s easy to find a domestic helper, you’ll want to invest time in finding a reliable and trustworthy individual. Ask for a reference when hiring, and tap into word-of-mouth channels to find a suitable recommendation.
