In Russia, if a public holiday falls on a weekend it is usually transferred to the first working day. For example, in 2012 Unity Day falls on a Sunday, thus Monday becomes a public holiday.

Furthermore, sometimes days off in Russia are rearranged to allow for long weekends or consecutive time off.

For example, In 2012 the following days will be workdays to allow for long weekends or consecutive days off:

  • Friday 9, March is a day-off, but it's necessary to work Sunday 11, March
  • Monday 30, April is a day-ff, but it's necessary to work on Saturday 23, April
  • Monday 11, June is a day-off, but it's necessary to work on Saturday 9, June
  • Saturday 29, December is a working day, so that 31 December 2012 is a day-off
