Education and Schools in Taipei

Schools in Taipei begin the school year in August/September. The year consists of two semesters; the first semester ends with a break for Chinese New Year and the second semester ends with a break for summer holidays.

School children have very long days, often attending after-school “cram schools” between 4pm and 9pm to improve their English before they must return home and work on their homework.

Taiwan is great if you want to move to a country where your children can learn Chinese in a Chinese speaking environment and get a generally high standard of education. In comparison, local Chinese schools in mainland China are quite intense, while schools in Hong Kong and Singapore tend to be very expensive.

Also, Taiwan has very inexpensive after school child care where kids can play and get help with their homework while parents are at work.
