Orientation in Taipei
Taipei is situated in northern Taiwan. The oldest part of the city is called Wanhua and is near the Danshui River. Taipei spreads out on the eastern side of the Danshui River, mostly to the east and north of Wanhua.
Expats interested in travelling to the north or south of the island from Taipei along either coast will find their route unhampered; however, due to the Central Mountain Range in the centre of the island, there is no easy route to travel between the east and west coasts.
Taiwan is prone to earthquakes and tremors, although most buildings are constructed with shock absorption to prevent the structures from being damaged.
Taipei 101 is the symbol of Taipei and an ever-present landmark. It was built to resemble a stalk of bamboo, has 101 stories and also boasts the world’s fastest elevator.
