Boston’s warm and friendly atmosphere will make expats relocating here feel right at home, and with some great attractions and activities to enjoy, people of all persuasions will find something to suit their tastes in this historic city. 
There is lots to do in Boston - shopping, exciting nightlife and a fabulous variety of restaurants, Boston also features good entertainment venues and world-class sports facilities.

Shopping in Boston

Expats will have a great time perusing Boston’s shopping districts where boutiques, department stores, malls and outlets overflow with jewellery, clothing, books and local goods. Head to Faneuil Hall Marketplace where more than 100 of Boston’s finest shops can be found, while those who can afford to really splash out should head to Newbury Street where designer names like Cartier and Armani line the street, and Beacon Hill is the place to go for antique buys.

Eating out in Boston

There are plenty of options when it comes to eating out in Boston and expats will find a range of restaurants to suit their tastes and budget. With a large Irish community, it’s not difficult to find good Irish fare in the city’s many Irish pubs. A large Italian community ensures that there are plenty of Italian restaurants to explore, along with numerous Asian and other ethnic delights available across the city. Expats will also be able to savour excellent seafood from the New England coast – clam chowder and lobster are definite dishes to try. Burger and take-away joints are aplenty, while the city also has a thriving food truck scene.

Entertainment and nightlife in Boston

Not known for its pumping nightlife, Bostonians prefer a more relaxed vibe during the evenings. Nevertheless, as can be expected in a city that is home to so many students, Boston is a drinking town and bar hopping is popular. Landsdowne Street has traditionally been a popular nightlife spot, with plenty of bars and clubs to enjoy. 
Those with more refined tastes will enjoy Boston’s arts scene. The Theatre District is home to a range of theatres and play houses with regular performances to rival New York’s Broadway. There are also plenty of restaurants in the area so expats can enjoy a full night out of theatre and dining. Cambridge and Watertown, outside of Boston, also boast many theatrical productions to enjoy, while the Boston Common hosts some open-air productions in the summer months. 

Outdoor and sporting activities in Boston

Home to several major league sporting teams, including the Boston Red Sox baseball team and the New England Patriots football team, Boston is a sports-mad city. Bostonians are passionate about supporting their team and during major games the city comes alive with supporters attending one of the city’s many sporting stadiums, or watching a game at one of Boston’s numerous pubs.
Expats can also enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle in the summer months thanks to Boston’s many public parks. Boston Common and the nearby Public Garden is the oldest public park in the US. Other green spaces that the whole family can explore include the Esplanade, Castle Island, Jamaica Pond, Arnold Arboretum and the Freedom Trail.
