Where to exercise in Chicago?


Chicago Park District:

Newcomers in Chicago must be aware of a wonderful resource that is Chicago Park District. This organization manages more than 7,600 acres of parkland in the city of Chicago and runs programmes of all kind (indoor and outdoor) using the parks and facilities the organization is in charge of.

The activities available go beyond your imagination and they target all groups of ages. The prices are very low. The CPD provides health and fitness program such as aerobics, aquatics, dance, boxing, fitness, self-defense and yoga. 

 

Where to go to stay fit in Chicago?


Fitness centres: 

Fitness centres are everywhere in Chicago. Therefore only the main chains are quoted here. Once you will be settled down, check in your neighborhood which one is the closest to your home or find a local fitness center. Do not hesitate to request for a complete visit and a try out before to register. Among the interesting services some of them offer is the “Kid Club”: you can train while some staff takes care of your children. 

Bally Fitness Center

This company has 22 clubs in the Chicagoland area. Half of them are located inside the city of Chicago. Their website is also in Spanish and they have Spanish speaking staff. 

Curves

Curves has 12 clubs in the Chicagoland area. Curves Clubs targets specifically women and offers a complete fitness and nutrition solution.  

Fitness Formula Clubs

FFC has nine clubs located through the city of Chicago and offers classical fitness equipments and classes. 

Chicago Athletic Clubs

This fitness center has four locations through Chicago. All of them offer classical fitness equipments and classes. The Lincoln Park location has a pool. 

World Gym and Fitness Center

YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago

The YMCA has 21 locations through the Chicagoland area. It offers health and fitness programs for children, adults and older adults (fitness, aquatics, sports, etc. …) but also human services programs (child care, pre and post natal services, senior home care, youth & teen activity programs, etc. …) and camping (day camp, resident camp). It is more than a simple fitness club.

Midtown Tennis Club

Chicago Park District

CPD runs tennis programs indoor and outdoor for teenagers, adults and seniors in California Park. The prices are very low. 

 

Where to swim in Chicago?


Some of the fitness centers listed previously have their own private pool for their members. When choosing your fitness center, the fact that they have a pool or not can become a criteria in becoming a member. 

 

Chicago Park District

The Chicago Park District has 26 indoor pools and 51 outdoor pools. Additionally, CPD manage the staff and run programming at 36 Chicago Public School pools in partnership with After School Matters, 18 of which offer community programming.
