Healthcare in Chicago
In Chicago, like other American cities, the healthcare is first rate but very expensive. It is important that all expats have health insurance for themselves and their family as some treatments and medication can be denied without it. Most expats hired by a large company will have insurance through their employment, which usually also covers family members. There are various levels of coverage including levels of different deductibles, dental and optical coverage that should be discussed with the employer.Chicago has some of the best hospitals in the country, due largely to its huge medical schools. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is top-rated, as are Rush University Medical Center and University of Chicago Medical Center. Expats should also find a family doctor for regular check-ups and non-emergency visits.
