Education and Schools in Miami

Miami has a large public school district, and it follows that some schools are underfunded and some schools are among the best in the nation.

The school district is unique in that it offers bi-lingual education due to the high percentage of Spanish speakers. Students attend schools in Miami that are based on residential address, except for a few magnet schools which children must test to be accepted into. The top rated public schools in Miami are Ada Merritt K-8 Center, Archimedean Academy, Coral Reef Senior High School, and Calusa Elementary School.

A large proportion of expat students in Miami attend private schools, many of which are religious, particularly Catholic in orientation. Private schools in Miami can take parents and children on tours or host open houses for potential students. Many of the Miami private institutions provide financial aid to qualifying students who can’t afford tuition. International schools offering continuing curricula from overseas school systems are limited.
