Education and Schools in Miami

Miami has a large public school district which can range from underfunded to some of the best schools in the nation. The schools district is unique in that it offers bi-lingual education due to the high percentage of Spanish speakers. Students attend schools in Miami that are based on residential address, except for a few magnet schools which children must test to be accepted into. The top rated public schools in Miami according to www.greatschools.net are Ada Merritt K-8 Center, Archimedean Academy, Coral Reef Senior High School, and Calusa Elementary School.

A large proportion of expat students in Miami attend private schools, many of which are religious, particularly Catholic in orientation, although there are plenty of non-religious schools as well. Private schools in Miami can take parents and children on tours or host open houses for potential students. Many of the Miami private institutions provide financial aid to qualifying students who can’t afford tuition. International schools offering continuing curricula from overseas school systems are limited.
