Frequently Asked Questions about Miami

Do I need to be concerned about hurricanes?
In the case of an approaching hurricane the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management will make sure residents are kept up to date on weather conditions and eminent evacuations. House owners may want to purchase hurricane insurance and residents are encouraged to have an evacuation kit with essential portable items ready. Do I need to know Spanish?
Yes, knowing Spanish will certainly help. More people speak Spanish than English in the city and everything from advertisements, to radio programs, to street side conversations are in Spanish. Business is often conducted in Spanish and when dealing with the many international Latin American companies, speaking the language will be an advantage. That said, one can easily get by with English.

How hot is it?
Miami temperatures do not really get unbearably hot. August is the warmest month averaging below 90°F (32°C ). Humidity levels of 85-90 percent can make the weather unpleasant. Winter months are much cooler.
