I'm a 37 year old, and now 70% disabled, Navy veteran looking for a new direction in life after my recent increase in disability rating. Shot up from 50%, and I can't work more than part time anymore.
I'm also trans (ftm) and the current US atmosphere doesn't exactly feel safe.
I hate big cities; was born and raised a rural kid, so I'm more at home out in the sticks than anywhere else.
Recently spent a week in Ireland, had no plans or anything, just winged the whole thing. Rented a car, saw the Wild Atlantic Way. Got lost and turned around a whole lot, but didn't care. Experienced the good and bad of rural Co. Clare and Co. Galway. I got a kick out of seeing the random palm trees popping up in front yards, too. That was unexpected.
I'm totally convinced that tour buses were invented by Satan to scare the shit out of people, though. Really glad I took out rental insurance on the car. Winding road + hedge-hidden stone fence + bus = long-assed scrape on the passenger side of the rental car.
I want to go back and live there for a while, but I'm not sure how to start.
