Hi All, My husband myself, and my toddler are moving to Abu Dhabi in August.

I am tearing my hair out with the decisions of what I need to ship and what would be cheaper to buy over there.

For example -should I ship kitchen items like pots and pans etc? Linen? Or just come with the bare esssentials and re buy when we get there? We are not planning on shipping any large items like furniture etc

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Regards, Sacha

Hi Sacha,

I wouldn't stress too much about shipping everyday household items to Abu Dhabi. It will probably be chaper for you to buy basic items like kitchen utensils and linen in Abu Dhabi than shipping it from home. Unless, of course the company is paying for the shipping.

Abu Dhabi is really well developed and you can buy most big brand names there, so you shouldn't miss much from home.

For some more information on what can and cannot be brought into the emirate take a look at the Expat Arrival's Shipping and Removals in Abu Dhabi page.

Good luck with the move.

Hi there, Have an offer 5000 AED/months net. Company provides for shared accomodation, flights tickets yearly, laundry, telephone, service charges, insurance covers and duty meals. Accomodation is 5 minutes away from workplace and there is no transportation allowance. Is the 5000 AED/month a decent offer if we take into consideration the other allowances?? Thanks for helping.

Hi I will soon move to Abu Dhabi to take up a job. I want to ship my car with me (2012 model) from Saudi Arabia. Can I drive it into the UAE with my work visa only from day 1 knowing that I will be leaving Saudi on final exit but not yet fully resident in UAE?
