Has anyone heard of a company called, "Mastela Construction"? My husband received a job offer but we are unsure whether it is a scam or not. Your help is appreciated. Bridget

Hi Bridget, they seem quite active on the career portals recruiting for engineers - check out their website - http://mastelaconstruction.com/index-2.html
I
suggest you contact the Registrar General's Department in Ghana to see if they are a registered company. They claim to have also opened an office in the UK, so it may be worth contacting the business registry offices in the UK to find out if they are registered there as well.

UPDATE: According to the testimonies below, Mastela Construction is a scam. If you are visiting this thread in search of information please read this entire thread.

Hi all

Unless you are a particularly qualified individual, remember that it is highly unlikely that you will be recruited from overseas without you applying for the job at the company or at the very least uploading your CV to recruitment/job-hunting websites. If you have made no recent attempt to look for work then you should be especially wary.

It is ESPECIALLY unlikely that the company is legitimate if their emails are riddled with spelling mistakes, not on proper letterheads or without email signatures, and you are asked to pay big "admin fees" to secure a job! No proper employer will ask you to pay money in order for them to give you a job. It should be the employer's responsibility to handle your relocation and admin costs if they have recruited you from overseas. The only exception is that you might need to be prepared to pay your visa fees once you have secured a contract. But these fees will be paid to your local embassy - NOT wired overseas to the company.

Anonymous (not verified) on 14 Nov 2012 - 11:32
It would seem that with the rising unemployment rate not only in SA but world wide. More and more scams will hit the air waves and find their way into our mail boxes. I am too a desperate South African, struggling to make ends meet. For all of you out there who are struggling like me I lift my hat to you and wish all the best for everyone. Word of advice and everybody in our positions have heard this over and over again... IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IS USUALLY IS Don't loose hope though... SA is still a good place and we will find our place under the South African Sun Best to All Wesley

Dey almost got me,by sending me a coloured offer letter with good tempting signatures and stamps. They're waiting for me to send them their US$299 as we speak. They aint getting a cent for me.I was so happy and convinced that I had finaly got a good paying job, only to find out that its a scam.People do not take any chances,it's a scam.I have worked for so many different companies, and none of them have asked for an upfront money!
Anonymous (not verified) on 21 Nov 2012 - 13:49
Hi everyone i also got the same offer 2day, yes im desperate, i need a good job out there, but still i wont allow any one to fool me, companies call u to offer you a job, companies dnt want your money to give you a job. so once i noticed that they wanted an upfront of 299 US dollars, i did not hasitate, i just realised that no, god wil give me a job when my time has come. so to any one out there reading here, dont fool your selves mastela is a scam. next time you get a job make sure that the employers call you and they dnt want any thing in your pocket, and if that does not happen dont bother your self, just ignore that. and im suprised why there is no 1 in SA in reference to this copmany

Hi Everyone. I also applied for a position at Mastela Construction through a job portal where I had to be logged in before I could appply, so even those are not safe. I got a response within hours also offering me a position (although the letter did not stipulate what position) and that they would pay me Dlrs 2500,00 up front all I needed to do was pay the courier cost of, yes you got it, Dlr 299. Immediately the Red Flag went up and I decided to check out the website. Must say professional job and one could easily be convinced that this was legitimate. Please guys, be aware because these scmsters can even get through to you usinf Job portals.
