Do most expats send their children to international schools in Qatar? How does payment work? Does the company pay for this, or is it expected you get a higher salary to pay for this? Also, when is enrolment and when's the earliest you can apply?

Yes, 99% of expats in Qatar send their children to international schools. These can be outrageously expensive so try your best to negotiate this as part of your contract. Also, ask your company if they happen to have any spots reserved in any of the more reputable schools. Slots can be scarce, and some parents refuse to even sign their employment contract until they've found a place for their little one. That said, things can also open up last minute, so many sign and sort it out later.

As an alternative, if there's no spots available the Cedar School has a rolling admissions policy. This school follows a British curriculum and is also a popular option for those expats with children who need to improve their English.

Officially, the school year in Qatar runs from September to June.
