Transport and Driving in Chile

The efficient transport infrastructure in Santiago is a microcosm of transport throughout Chile. Road and air routes connect the far south of this country to the extreme north.

There are a number of domestic airlines which make access to even the most remote areas of the country relatively simple. Local buses also efficiently connect remote towns in the foothills of the Andes to small seaside villages.

Car rentals are widely available in big cities and the roads are relatively easy to navigate. Expats should note that road signs are in Spanish, not in English.

Chile's national railway service runs in the central region of the country. The three large cities of Santiago, Valparaiso and Concepcion have easy-to-use metro or train systems.
