The three campuses of Parklands College started off as Christopher Robin Pre-Primary School in 1980. It was started by founder Lorraine Roth who sought to open a progressive and dynamic place of learning in one of the fastest growing regions in South Africa. The school has continued to provide a nurturing, holistic environment to its learners and, as the suburb grew, so did the school. Parklands College opened in 1998, with a separate secondary school campus opening in 2012. As the suburb continues to grow, so the school goes from strength to strength as it strives to stay at the forefront of private education in a safe and emotionally secure environment.

The College exists to provide excellence in all facets of learning, ensuring outstanding teaching, professionalism and classroom innovation, in order to attain a commendable level of scholarship and academic achievement. Within an environment characterised by high expectations and respect for excellence in all areas, we prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life in an increasingly technological society.

By providing the skills to utilise and research the internet, learners are able to participate in a diverse, global learning community. The development of a balanced personality requires involvement in other spheres of College life. Therefore, participation in sport, cultural activities, associations, clubs and outreach initiatives provide learners with opportunities for leadership and character development establishing valid standards and social codes. Through our curriculum, we aim to develop the full potential of each child, seeking to create a lifelong Iearner who is confident and independent, literate, numerate, compassionate, has respect for the environment and the ability to participate in society as a critical and active citizen.


Exemplary teaching, innovative instructional activities, and authentic assessment are at the centre of the Parklands College curriculum programme. Academic staff design and deliver stimulating learning activities that nurture children’s natural curiosity and creativity. Educators integrate the teaching of content knowledge and skills, along with 21st century and higher order thinking skills, within a rich technological environment that prepares our learners to enter the adult world with competence and confidence.

Curriculum implementation is guided by research and aligned to national guidelines and policies. We follow the national Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements  (CAPS) from Grade R through Grade 12. Our seamless integration of technology into teaching and learning practices aims to produce learners who can:

  • identify and solve problems and make decisions using critical and creative thinking

  • work effectively as individuals and with others as members of a team

  • organise and manage themselves and their learning activities responsibly and effectively

  • collect, analyse, organise, and critically evaluate information

  • communicate effectively using visual, symbolic and/or language skills

  • use science and technology skills effectively and critically

Throughout the College, our approach to learning is innovative, enriched and flexible, with an emphasis on success for every learner.


Located around 9 miles (15km) northeast of Cape Town, Parklands is situated on the Atlantic Seaboard, known internationally for its breath-taking views of Table Mountain.
