Lifestyle and Shopping in New York City

By symone - Posted on 08 December 2009

The lifestyle for expats in New York is a busy and varied one. There are a plethora of restaurants, nightlife hotspots, shopping destinations and events to enjoy, as well as theatre, arts and culture venues, health and beauty centres and sports facilities.

With a vast and varied calibre of shopping options, expats in New York will have a hard time holding onto those purse strings. The famous 5th Avenue is a must, even if only for window-shopping, as is trendy Madison Avenue, with designer shops including Chanel and Prada. The cobblestone streets of Soho also host many chic outlets. On the other hand, there are bargains aplenty to be had in Chinatown and the Lower East Side, and at local flea markets. Farmer's markets are good for fresh produce.

As far as New York nightlife goes, expats will be enthralled. This city has a vibrant nightlife offering everything from lounges, jazz bars and nightclubs to comedy clubs and live shows. Some of the best known New York venues include the O’Neill Theatre for Broadway shows, the New York Comedy Club and Cream nightclub. Other popular nightspots are the Bowery Ballroom, People’s Voice Café, Oak Room and the Radio City Music Hall, while Madison Square Garden regularly hosts live concerts.
