Is a housing allowance of 15,000 HKD a month enough for a family of four to find a sizeable housing in Hong Kong?

Considering that Hong Kong is now the third most expensive place in the world when it comes to real estate rates, you can expect "spacious" accommodation for a family of four to cost much for than 15,000 HDK per month. The first thing you'll have to prepare yourself for is a downsize, unless you've lured abroad by a wealthy corporate who's willing to shell out big bucks for you, chances are you won't be able to afford the detached housing of The Peak.

The average cost of accommodation for a two-bedroom standard apartment is 18,600 HKD. If you're looking in the areas of Repulse Bay, Kowloon Tong and Stanley it will be significantly more.

So, see if you can get a bit more money, and for more tips of finding housing in Hong Kong read the Expat Arrivals Accommodation page.

A family of four will have great difficulty finding any acceptable housing in Hong Kong, unless they are willing to go to the very far reaches of the New Territories. I pay 33,000 HKD for 800 sq ft in North Point.
