Hi, I am from India and planning to move to Cape town. I opted for general quota work visa from india it self. Means I can search for job once I reach South Africa.

Can anyone help me out the process and chances of getting a job as a foreign national. Im a web developer and need to know the job market in Cape town.

I've searched and googled all the jobs in Cape town. But I dont have any contacts, so without any contacts, is it possible for me to get a job, with only online process?

Hope you understand my issue. I just want to know whether it is possible to get a job or schedule an interview when some one like me just applied jobs only through online job portals.

There are plenty of jobs in the job portals but Im not sure about the probability of getting calls from the recruiters/// Thanks, SM.

Hi there sreekarmoganty,

I am an British expat living in Cape Town and I moved here almost 3 years ago now.

From my experience, I found job portals were quite a good source for finding out about jobs. I got a fair few calls from jobs that I applied for online. However, I do think it helps to be in the country as most employers wanted to interview candidates quite quickly. I found it hard to schedule interviews before I arrived. There is no harm in trying though - it is always useful to make contacts before you arrive and you never know there might be an opening somewhere down the line. Also, remember that already having a visa in place will give you an advantage over other foreigners.

That being said, in Cape Town it does help to have contacts and networking will be a key factor in your success. Once you get here, try and meet up with others working in your field. Often the best source of information comes from other expats who have been in your shoes.

For a bit more information on Cape Town's job market check out the Expat Arrivals page on Working in Cape Town.

Good Luck,

Shantalie

It's definitely worth making contact with recruitment agents in Cape Town, who will be able to offer advice about what you need to do. Good job portals for IT-related work include bizcommunity.co.za and careerjunction.co.za - both these sites also list recruitment agents in Cape Town so it's a good place to start.

Good luck with your move!
